THE Auction Details
This year's Auction will be completely virtual and held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Your ticket includes access to online bidding and virtual entertainment (details TBD) the night of the auction.
There will be a silent auction, using online bidding in advance of and through the night of the auction. In addition, there will be two raffles: Golden Ticket and Principal for a Day.
School Within School is a teacher-directed school inspired by the child-centered philosophy of Italy’s Reggio Emilia pre-primary schools. This school year, 16 classes serve about 320 students from PK3 to fifth grade. SWS’s mission is to support and develop children’s potential through a uniquely collaborative teaching and learning environment.
The SWS program team believes that children are:
1) competent, intelligent, curious, and innately creative;
2) ready to learn within a social context and be active participants in the formation of their ideas and understanding of the world; and
3) equal partners with their parents and teachers in the learning process.
That collaborative relationship among the children, educators, and families of SWS is the defining element of the school’s philosophy. An important goal is to strengthen and bridge children’s experiences between school and home; families are asked to participate as equal partners in communication, creating and improving the school environment, participating in children’s projects, and fundraising to support the school (the highlight of which is the 23rd Annual Auction!).
All profits raised during the auction go directly to programs for the students and fill the gaps in the District’s funding for public school students. Every year we need to equip our classrooms, hire assistants, and develop new curricula. With the continued generosity of you and our community partners, our Reggio-inspired elementary school program will continue to grow and thrive in Washington, DC.
